The goal of The Upper Shore Genealogical Society of Maryland is to discover, collect and disseminate data and records significant to history and family research. By becoming a member of the Society, you will be joining many others who share this goal while tracing their family's origins to the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Founded in 1973, the USGS continues to serve as a focal point for genealogical activities in the counties of Kent, Queen Anne's, Talbot, Caroline and Dorchester. The Society is an important link in the exchange of information between resident and non-resident family history researchers.

A forum of exchange is provided at meetings which are held on (starting September 2006) the third Sunday during the months of September, November, January, March, and May, at 2 PM. Meetings are held at the USGS Meeting Center & Library. Occasionally meetings are held at other locations of genealogical or historical interest.

The annual membership fee of $20.00 covers the period from July 1 through June 30. It includes the Society's publication Chesapeake Cousins, an annually published Surname List and Cousin to Cousin, a periodic newsletter.

No meetings until Fall 2008

In case of inclement weather, the meeting will be canceled and rescheduled. Call 410-778-0983 if in doubt for meeting verification.

Chesapeake Cousins is the Society's journal to help further the research of our members. Published twice a year, in the spring and fall, it contains a wide variety of articles submitted by members. The articles include such information as family charts, bible records, abstracts of public records – county and state, cemetery records, newspaper abstracts, military records, tax records, census, family histories, depositions, pension lists, emigration lists, book reviews and articles of genealogical and historic interest. A section is devoted to queries sent in by members seeking information and assistance in their research. There is no fee for these queries.

Preserving Cemetery Records Beginning in 1985, the USGS undertook a continuing project to transcribe all of the cemeteries in the counties of the Upper Eastern Shore. This has resulted in the publication of the following books, that may be ordered from the USGS. For ordering information, stop by the USGS Book Store.

Books by USGS Members Several USGS members are active publishers of genealogical books of interest to Eastern Shore researchers. Titles, pricing and order forms are available through this web site for many of these books. Check out the USGS Book Store for details.
