Obituary of Thomas Blades of E.

Easton Gazette, Saturday June 20, 1903

Mr. Thomas Blades of E. died Thursday morning at his residence on Cherry Street, aged 85. The cause of his demise was general debility. Mr. Blades had been a retired merchant for many years. He was one of the oldest citizens of the town. Mr. Blades was twice married, his first wife having been Miss Fatima Marshall; his second, who survives him, is a sister to Mr. Thomas Kirby - Miss Susan Kirby. The following children also survive the deceased: Miss Elizabeth Blades, Mrs. John R. Kirby, Mrs. S. E. Marshall and Mr. Thomas H. Blades, all of St. Michaels. Mr. Blades was a member of the local order of Odd Fellows. Funeral is at the M. E. Church today at 2pm.

Obituary of Susan Kirby Blades

Easton Star-Democrat, Saturday February 26, 1916, County News for St. Michaels

Mrs. Susan E. Blades, widow of Thomas Blades of this town, died at her home, corner of Talbot and Cherry Streets, Friday February 18, after an illness of several years. She was 87 years of age. She is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Henrietta Hubbard of Baltimore and Mrs. Mary E. Caulk of this town, and one brother, James H. Kirby of Baltimore. Funeral services were held at her residence, Rev. Leonard White of the M.E. Church officiating. Interment was at Olivet Cemetery.

Miss Elizabeth Frances Blades died at her home on Cherry Street Tuesday night after a lingering illness. Funeral services were held at the residence Friday morning.

Obituary of Mary Louisa Blades Marshall

Mrs. Mary Louisa Marshall, widow of the late Samuel E. Marshall, died at her residence at 6:20 A.M., Sunday Jan 1st, age 63 years. Mrs. Marshall was an active worker in the church and Sunday School, having joined the church in her early teens. She was a graduate of the St. Michaels High School in 1876 and is the first member of her class to die. Mrs. Marshall is survived by four children, Misses Kate H., Susan E., and M. Louise Marshall, Mrs. N.H. Leonard, four grandchildren, a brother, Mr. T.H.H. Blades, and a sister, Mrs. John Kirby. Funeral services were held at the Sardis M.E. Church at 2:30 P.M., Tuesday, Rev. C. Nadel Jones, officiating. The Pallbearers were: Messrs. A.H. Radcliffe, E.H. Burns, S.M. Blades, W.D.J. Morris, J.J. Carey and P.W. Harrison. Interment in Olivet Cemetery.

Obituary of Curtis Blades Sewell

Curtis Blades Sewell, well-known merchant and business man of St. Michaels, Md., died at his home at the age of 65, on Wednesday, July 22, 1942. Born and raised in this town, Mr. Sewell has a large circle of friends and business relations. As a young man, he was engaged in the wood and coal business. Later he became interested in newspaper work and at one time was employed by the Baltimore Sun. For approximately the last thirty years, however, he has been engaged in the grocery business in the same building where his grandfather, the late Thomas Blades of E., conducted a similar business. Mr. Sewell was a public spirited citizen, having served for several terms on the Town Board of Commissioners, also the School Board of Talbot County. He was keenly interested in politics, a staunch Republican all his life and was known to support those policies that were sound and beneficial to the people at large. With the passing of Mr. Sewell, there are many who have lost a real friend and this regard was evidenced by the large number gathered to pay him tribute. The funeral was held from his home Saturday at 10:30 AM with Rev. H. Kirby Krams, minister of Sardis Methodist Church officiating, interment was in Olivet Cemetery, J. Norman Marshall, funeral director. The pallbearers were Philip H. Hope, Sr., William C. Mills, Philip Edmonds, John Mansfield, Kenneth Bridges and Russell Summers. Mr. Sewell was the son of William Sewell and Ida Blades Sewell, both of whom died when their son was very young. He was raised in the home of his maternal grandparents. Surviving him are his wife, Mrs. Lydia Williams Sewell and daughter, Frances Sewell of Baltimore.

Obituary of Samuel M. Blades

Easton Star-Democrat, Friday November 21, 1952, County News for St. Michaels

Samuel M. Blades, 89, of St. Michaels, died after a lingering illness on Tuesday, November 11 in Wilmington. Mr. Blades was the husband of the late Carrie L. Blades. Mr. Blades spent his entire life in St. Michaels. Mr. Blades has build several log canoes, one of which he used until a couple of years ago, when his health forced him to retire. He was a charter member of the Improved Order of Red Men, Jaunita Tribe #85 of St. Michaels and a member of Sardis Methodist Church. Samuel Blades is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Edna Jones of Wilmington and a grandson, William O. Blades of Florida. Funeral services were held from the S. Hambleton Harrison Funeral home in St. Michaels, the Rev. Gordon Stapleton of Bozman officiating. Interment was in Olivet Cemetery, St. Michaels. Pallbearers were from the Red Men's Lodge. They were: George Connor, Maurice Dyott, Oliver Kirby, , J.M. Schockley, Ralpy Barnes and Wallace Kelly.
